Fantastic day out on the Flying Fish

taken from  Voices Newspaper

SOMETIMES life in a holiday resort can be stressful! A crowded Saturday market, trying to find a space on the beach, sneaking past bar touts trying to get you in the door…even those living in Altinkum full-time sometimes need a break.

Last week some of the expat Didim mums took a private day trip on the Flying Fish yacht to chill out and enjoy the peaceful, laid-back atmosphere on board.

Seven mums and grandmas, and three babies, all had a fantastic time relaxing on the sunbeds at the prow or chilling in the shade at the stern while the babies napped in the master cabin.

The music, from the radio tuned to Bodrum FM, was just loud enough to hear the relaxed sounds, totally suited to the laid-back atmosphere of the cruise and a far cry from the banging volumes and controversial lyrics popular around the resort.

Lunch was 100% hand-prepared from fresh ingredients in the galley, which is open for guests to see the food being prepared and cooked.

Sigara borek is a traditional Turkish meze or appetizer – mild white cheese rolled up in pastry like a cigar and cooked on the stove. There were two types of marinated chicken breast, tender and delicately flavoured; rice from the captain’s home town of Terme on the Turkish Black Sea coast; a fresh salad; and cacik, another traditional Turkish dish of yoghurt, mint and cucumber, favoured in the summer for being so refreshing.

Later in the afternoon, as the sun’s rays eased off, the crew served sliced watermelon while the guests sipped drinks and lounged on the prow.

The yacht’s tender, a zodiac speedboat, was available to the guests in case anyone wanted to finish the day early – but funnily enough, no-one did!

The Flying Fish is a motor yacht with two cabins, available for private day and evening trips, overnight charters, fishing trips and tailor-made cruises. It moors up at Altinkum Harbour throughout the summer season.

Prices for private day trips start from £200 for up to 8 people including food; prices for fishing trips are £20 per person including bait and equipment, or £25 with a meal on board.

More information can be found at or contact Laura via Facebook at Flying Fish Altinkum, on Twitter at @flyingfishdidim, by email on or call or text on +90 535 424 4661.

Kayra Restaurant

DIDIM’s premier bar, restaurant and family entertainment complex is opening up its doors to offer a perfect family experience.
From a dedicated children’s soft play area and great entertainment for adults to a buzzing atmosphere and a fine dining experience to rival any five-star hotel – Club Aegean’s Kayra Restaurant and Bar is fast becoming the place to see and be seen in.
The restaurant on the Club Aegean complex is located a short distance off Adnan Menderes Boulevard (otherwise known as Marina Road) and behind Çiçek Bahçesi Creche.
It is a popular family-friendly place to be if only for the children’s play jungle: a two storey soft play room, with a mini bouncy castle, kid’s tables and enough distractions to keep the kids occupied for hours.
The colourful room plays an essential part in the whole family experience and with staff on hand, you know that your children can play in relative safety. To complete the family-friendly environment, there are also baby changing facilities and a feeding room. The adults are not being left out: as the restaurant offers a planned variety of nights of entertainment from tributes, speciality nights and Turkish nights. And the food at the restaurant is among the best on offer.
Diners can also opt for either inside or outside dining, both very high quality environments to complement your eating experience. Relax and sunbathe by the swimming pool, watch sky TV or play a game of snooker on the full size snooker table.
Often a meal can be very good, but Kayra is trying to take the experience to new heights by offering a host of entertainers throughout the summer season for your delectation. It is open from morning for breakfast until late, snack menu and extensive evening menu.
Now the restaurant has unveiled its June content, which starts on Wednesday June 12 with the East Beach Dave cabaret show. This will be in tribute to Lawrence ‘Lol’ Candler, from Yesiltepe, who died on Sunday September 9.
The following Saturday (Sept 15) will be a BBQ and cabaret, again with East Beach Dave. It will include rock and roll, swing and reggae.
On Wednesday June 19, Rock and Roll fanatics can have a night of indulgence with David Shindler. Saturday June 22 sees the East Beach Dave Show step up for another show.
Dave is an Essex singer based in Shoeburyness with regular gigs in Southend and the surrounding area. An entertaining singer vocalist he has sung with a number of Essex bands as well as performing as a solo singer for over 10 years.
On Wednesday June 26  there will be a Steady Eddy Caberet Show, and then on Friday June 28, Kayra’s will host a 50s Teddy Boys Rock and Roll event with diners encouraged to dress up in their Teddy Boy jackets, Brylcream, drainpipe trousers and ‘winkle picker’ shoes, and petticoats and ponytails.
For more details contact the restaurant on 0256 813 2805 or 0532 763 2367, or keep abreast of what is going on by joining their facebook page: Club Aegean Kayra Restaurant and Bar.
